Movie Monday Part 2 - Monsters University

Ok so I know I promised this movie review sooner in the week but it was the end of my semester at my teaching day job and that comes with a mountain of paperwork to deal with.  So here it is.  Last Monday I went to two movies.  Yes, I did.  I went early in the day with my mom and kids to see Monsters University and then later that evening I went again on my usual date with Ivy to see World War Z (read the review for it here).

Back to my Monsters University review.  I was very excited to see this one.  I love Monsters INC. so I decided to tag along with my mom to see this one with my kids.  In Monsters University we see Mike (voiced by Billy Crystal), Sully (voiced by John Goodman) and even Randall (voiced by Steve Buscemi) getting to know each other in college.  It's all a cute lesson about not judging people/monsters by their appearance or lack of scariness and throw in a little Revenge of the Nerds Disney style and you have Monsters University.  My kids said they loved it.  My mom and I thought it was cute but a little long and not as good as the first.  I know, I know most sequels are not as good but when we're talking about Disney/Pixar who DID make Toy Story 2 and even Toy Story 3 as good if not BETTER than the original the bar is high in my book.  Honestly what I think is missing is the sweetness of Boo the little girl in Monsters INC. and Sully's relationship.  We did not see it in 3D because the price starts to really add up when your paying for 4 people to see a 3D movie.  I honestly did not miss anything seeing it in 2D.  Unlike some other animated movies I've seen in 2D and thought wow now that would be awesome in 3D (Despicable Me) I never had that thought during Monsters University.  So I say skip the 3D but go see it your kids will love it.

Update: New rating scale added after the original posting.  My rating is 3 popcorn buckets out of 5.

Ten on Tuesday

1. What is your cleaning style like?
It's pretty much leave it if it's not disgusting or clean when I get them whim (rare) or clean when I have company coming.  I'm just not a big fan of cleaning nor am I a neat freak.

2. What is your favorite thing to add to an outfit to take it from casual to classy?
Add cute flats and nice jewelry.

3. Do you like stormy weather?
Yes! I like thunderstorms and rain when I don't have to go anywhere.

4. What is your favorite cold treat on a hot day?
Ice cream, ice cold beer, or a gin and tonic with lots of ice.

5. What is your favorite warm treat on a cold day?
Fresh warm chocolate chip cookies out of the oven or chili.

6. Who is your favorite animated character?
Woody from Toy Story!

7. What do you keep your jewelry in?
I have a few jewelry boxes but the pieces I wear the most I keep in a anti tarnish travel jewelery pouch on my dresser.

8. Do any of the rooms in your house have a theme?
Not really.  The kids rooms kinda do in general terms.  Noa's is cowboys (cowboy quilt my mom made him and cowboy sheets and decals from Target) and Marley's is flowers (quilt my mom made her and decals from Target and the flower mobile I made her).

9. Do you watch any interior design TV shows – if so, what is your favorite?
I used to watch them all the time ... particularly Trading Spaces and Dear Genevieve but I rarely watch them now because I cut back on TV that James doesn't watch with me.

10. When was the last time you did something risk-taking?
Everyday when I drive here! Seriously people here are terrible (we literally have the highest accident & insurance rates in the state).  I chalk it up to all the retirees from up north, students and tourists.  I have been hit 3 times (NONE my fault) in the last 5 years.

Ten on Tuesday

1. What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day. Do you love it? Hate it?
I like it. I like to get flowers and it's one of the only times I get them.  Oh and I don't care if it's $75 roses in fact I would rather it wasn't.  I'm just happy with a bunch pretty flowers, some conversation hearts and a card.

2. What is your favorite romantic comedy?
As usual I don't have just one.  But at the top of my list is Brigdet Jones' Diary, Say Anything, and French Kiss.

3. Meg Ryan & John Mellencamp: what’s your first reaction?
As long as they are happy it's all good.  I happen to love John  Mellencamp and Meg Ryan so I wish them all the best!

4. All time favorite poem or quote?
Again I am not going to follow directions.  I am going to give you my favorite quote and poem.
My favorite quote is;
"If they give you ruled paper, write the other way." by Juan Ramon Jimenez
It was my senior quote and to this day I still love it and try to adhere to it.  I like to be different and question things.
And my favorite poem is;
Homework! Oh, Homework! by Jack Prelutsky
============

Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!
I wish I could wash you
away in the sink.
If only a bomb
would explode you to bits.
Homework! Oh, homework!
You're giving me fits.

I'd rather take baths
with a man-eating shark,
or wrestle a lion
alone in the dark,
eat spinach and liver,
pet ten porcupines,
than tackle the homework
my teacher assigns.

Homework! Oh, homework!
You're last on my list.
I simply can't see
why you even exist.
If you just disappeared
it would tickle me pink.
Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!

I love Jack Prelutsky!  In fact I like him better than Shel Silverstein (I know start the hate mail now).  But I choose this poem to memorize and recite in front of my class in the 6th grade and to this day I can still recite the first 4 lines or so.

5. What’s the longest amount of time you’ve gone without sleep? (like consecutive hours).
I went about 48 hours once when I flew back to the US from Europe and I didn't sleep on the plane and then had to ride on a bus from Atlanta to SC then I drove myself from SC back home to NC.  I was 16 at the time and was so into talking and having fun that I didn't sleep during the flight or bus ride.  I remeber being so tired and trying to drive home and now I know how dangerous that was and I just chringe.

6. What color ink do you prefer to use?
Black but I am not really picky as long as it's a good pen and writes well.

7. Share with us a blog that you recently found and fell in love with (and link us!)
To be honest I haven't searched out new blogs lately.  I've had a lot going on and I am just barley keeping up with the ones I do read and to be honest I haven't been commenting on them like I used to because I just haven't had the time.

8. If you could be on a reality TV show which one would you choose?
Amazing Race!!!!  I love that show and it makes me want to travel so bad!  Just think of all the fun places I would get to go!  I just need to find a good partner (oh and loose some weight so I could really compete well).  I could not do it with James because we would kill each other!!!

9. Mountains or Beach?
I love the mountains and they are close to my heart because I am from Colorado but I happen to live at the beach now and I love it!

10. With the Oscars around the corner, what’s your pick for best picture?
I've only seen 4 of the nominees but I would have to say Toy Story 3 because it made me laugh and cry.  And I just loved it!

Random Thougths (aka no creativtity tonight for a title)

I am sitting here in pretty much a tired stupor.  I have spent the last two days in this state.  The cause of my sleeplessness you ask (maybe you didn't but it;s my blog & I'm gonna tell you anyway).... Eclipse.  Yes the newest Twilight Saga (vampire teenager fun for those of you living under a rock) installment.  My good friends and I went to the midnight showing on Tuesday night with all the tweens, teens, and fanatics.  My plan was to stay up late Monday night and then take a nap Tuesday while my daughter napped.  Well my little princess decided she didn't want to nap.  I made it through the movie and got to sleep about 3AM Wednesday morning.  Bad news was that I had to get up at 7AM to take my son to camp.  But I was going to get to nap when my daughter did and go to bed early.  Guess what neither one happened.  Yet again my dear darling daughter did NOT nap and I ended up having to work Wednesday night when I wasn't supposed to.  I worked until 9:30 and managed to get into bed by 10.  Again had to get up today at 7 to take my son to camp.  I then pretty much ran around all day working and taking my kids back and forth to all the different things going on today.  So anyway my point was it's all Eclipse's fault!  I am just too old to be doing opening night especially with young kids at home.

For father's day we all went to see Toy Story 3.  My son's favorite movies for the longest time were Toy Story and Toy Story 2.  He has a Buzz figure and Woody and Jessie dolls.  So we were all so excited to see the new movie.  I have confess that I think I liked it more than the kids did!  It was so good and par for the course during Pixar movies I cried.

Oh and FYI my one year anniversary on Etsy is coming up soon!!!  And I will be running a special to celebrate so be sure to keep an eye out for it!  I will announce it here in the next week.  AND I will be doing another giveaway in very near future as well!

And now I am going to bed!
